I cannot recommend Video MVP high enough. I gave them decades worth of family movies on VHS to digitize as well as over 40 photo albums of old family photos that ranged from standard 4x6 to panoramics to Polaroids and finally a large box full of slides.

We can convert your VHS and Video8 video tapes, but also VHS-C, MiniDV, Hi8, Digital8, S-VHS, Betamax, and PAL/SECAM VHS. Pro formats like Betacam/SP, U-matic 3/4", DVCAM, DVCPRO, and HDV, can also be digitized.
We time all your tapes to allow for the best quality and to avoid a bunch of blue in your video files and DVDs. If we find a blank tape, we'll skip it at no charge.
Your video files will be in the MP4 format. They are high quality and compatible with PCs, Macs, and most smart TVs. The files can be edited, copied, and shared.
Lastly, at no extra charge, we will custom name your files based on the tape labels or whatever title you like. For DVDs, we will print your title on the face of the disc.

The T-120 VHS tape was most commonly used for home recording in a VCR. VHS tapes typically were 120 minutes long when full (SP speed). However, there are also LP and EP recording speeds which last 4 and 6 hours respectively. S-VHS (Super VHS) was developed later with higher resolution.
Designed for camcorder use, Video8 and Hi8 cassettes are usually 120 minutes when full. There was an LP recording speed which made the tape 4 hours, but that is much less common. The cassette is about the size of a deck of playing cards. Hi8 tapes were the second generation of this format with improved resolution.
The little brother to VHS, VHS-C tapes were designed for camcorders. It is the same video tape, but in a smaller shell. VHS-C had the benefit of fitting into an adapter that would allow playback in a VCR. Standard recording lengths were 30 minutes, but the EP speed allowed for 90 minutes.
MiniDV tapes are digital and took the video quality way beyond its analog predecessors. The cassette itself is about the size of a Tic Tac candy box. Standard MiniDV tapes last 60 minutes in SP and 90 minutes in LP.
This digital version of Video8 tapes has the same cassette size, however the camcorder was different. Like MiniDV, Digital8 made its older analog formats jealous of its image quality. Digital8 tapes were 60 minutes when full.
Betamax was a home video cassette format introduced by Sony in 1975, and was a direct competitor to the VHS format. Despite its superior video and audio quality, Betamax failed to gain widespread popularity and lost the format war to VHS in the 1980s.
Though these tapes look like average VHS tapes, they are not. VHS tapes recorded in other countries have different video signals like PAL or SECAM (U.S. is NTSC). These tapes are often longer than the typical two-hour VHS in America, but they can still be converted.
I found my old home movies, the only moving footage of my childhood that I’m aware of. We tried a VHS tape beforehand and the VCR destroyed them, and I was immediately reminded how fragile the medium is, and I knew I needed to convert these artifacts to something more modern just in case. Sure enough, Video MVP was right around the corner, and for a very reasonable price I was able to salvage my home movies and make copies for my family as presents.
Widely used by news organizations and professional video production companies, Betacam (and later Betacam SP) are half-inch tape formats first developed in the early 1980s. The cassettes came in two different sizes.
The U-matic tape format was released in the early 1970s. The cassette contains tape that is 3/4 of an inch wide and is often called "three-quarter". Interestingly, the reels inside the cassette move in opposite directions, unlike most other video formats.
DVCAM was released in 1996. Mostly used by professionals but based on the MiniDV tapes that you may have had. The cassettes came in two different sizes.
DVCPRO was introduce in 1995 and was used for news, sports and cinema. Tapes were available in a variety of lengths.
This is HD technology of the standard definition MiniDV tape. In fact, both tapes are capable of HD and SD video recordings, but HDV offered 1080 resolution at an affordable price. This format was very popular with amateur and professional videographers.

Video files (MP4 files) are better quality, editable, easier to share, less expensive to copy and take up less space than DVDs. Video files are great for preserving your memories for future generations. You can play these files on a PC, Mac, and most smart TVs. DVDs do have one advantage, most people are familiar with DVD players and they are easy to play. Please note: Video DVDs only hold two hours. Also, they were not designed as a single file. You can't copy a file off a Video DVD and expect it to work on your computer.
No problem. While timing your tapes, if we find a blank one or one that appears to just be TV, we'll skip it - no charge. For the unlabeled tapes, we'll transfer your home video and give the file/disc a number. You can rename the file or write on disc once you see the content.
We will name each MP4 file with a date, event, or whatever you like. We can take the information off the tape label or you are welcome to email us with a list of how you would like each file named.
There are two options. You can choose Cloud Storage or USB thumb drive. For Cloud Storage, we will upload your files to a secure location and email you a link so you can share and download them. Cloud Storage is the recommended choice, but you can also get a USB drive with all your files. Yes, we give your tapes back to you. We also offer the option to hold your media for 30 days. Many people who ship orders to us like this option to reduce return shipping costs. This allows them to review their conversions and then after 30 days, we will dispose/recycle the media.
It happens. We'll try hard to get your tape to play its best. After many years in business, we've learned a few tricks to help. If our efforts don't work, we'll always contact you and explain what we're seeing and figure out a game plan. These are your memories and we'll let you make the call.

Though there are many kinds, the most common consumer formats are VHS, 8mm, Hi8, VHS-C, MiniDV, and Digital8. Other consumer formats include S-VHS and Betamax. We can also convert VHS tapes from other countries that are recorded in PAL or SECAM. We also convert professional video formats like Betacam, Betacam SP, U-matic 3/4", DVCAM, DVCPRO, and HDV. You don't need to worry about which format is which though. When we receive your tapes, we will be happy to give you an estimate for your conversions.
